on the wagon

on the wagon: a colloquialism generally referring to an alcohol abuser’s sobering up time. Can also be used as a general reference to refraining from any bad habit.

No worries. I’m not addicted to alcohol. Worse. Is there a support group or rehab center or wagon for those of us addicted … to cloth diapers?

Y’all, something that I never really thought I’d enjoy this much has become an obsession. I love everything about it. I love picking her diapers out, I love washing them and folding them, I love researching and finding what works best for her/us, I love how chemical-free her bottom is, I love that she has never had a diaper rash. And lately, I love saving money by doing things myself.

I’ve never been a fan of prefolds.
prefolds

To me, they’re hard to put on and they’re not very absorbent. And don’t even get me started on what I’m supposed to do with pins. Eek!

But then I discovered Dylon dye. And I had way too much fun dyeing all of my boring white prefolds different colors.

And I got pretty good at putting them on Emma with the new-fangled Snappi (no pins!)

And then, I got some prefitteds — which are fitted diapers made out of prefolds. Huge plus is that they’re easy to put on!

They usually have a strip of fabric down the middle on the outside to make them prettier. So after I dyed my prefolds, I looked at my fabric-embellished prefolds and said, “You know. I believe I can do that!”

And I did!

Our little Emma looks cute as a button in them, of course.

I’m officially hooked!

It’s okay. You can yawn, now. I won’t look.

Keli: You really are SAVING money because as cute as those diapers are she doesn’t have to wear clothes over them. When I get old and have to wear diapers will you make mine?

Found your link on DS. :)

I have to say I agree with you 100%. I’ve become an addict. My DH thinks it’s funny that I LIKE to wash the dipes!

Plus our dd’s are only a few days apart (Elizabeth Grace was born 5-11-07).

You’ve got some great eye for fabrics and colors!
