summer light

Don’t really have anything of essence to blog about today, so I just thought I’d share some of my favorite shots from this summer.

Is that okay?

deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.

Oh wait!! I have some essence!

Okay, so can I tell y’all a little secret?

I RARELY shoot during the day when the sun is high and bright and harsh.

my life

I had to go back 6 pages on my Flickr account to find a picture that I had taken in bright sun. And even this one was taken around 4pm and photoshop’ed to look less harsh.

Sun creates shadows and washed out / too bright skin. It just doesn’t make for good pictures at all.

I wait until no earlier than 7pm to shoot pictures of Emma.

dusk

dusk

Or I stick her in the shade.

my mom says that she looks just like me ...

You’ll see a lot of photos on our front porch.

procrastination

And you’ll see a lot of photos taken with that soft pink or orange’y yellow dusk light.

deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.

you say tomato ...

suburban flare

Now, if you know about bokeh, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, Crazy lady, bokeh is best gathered when there is sun in the sky.

Yes, that’s true.

line 'em up ... move 'em out

But if you play your cards right, you can get some seriously gorgeous, soft bokeh if you have that warm dusk light.

split tone

oooh …

morning light

mmmmmm …

we look forward to the time when the power of love will replace the love of power. then will our world know the blessings of peace.

sigh …

backlit

oh my …

lakekeh

I could go on all day.

Now, put your kids to bed, tell your husband that he’s in charge and get out there and SHOOT!

ps – sundown or sunrise are the best times to get these kind of shots.

bye, y’all!

Keli – you take the best pictures. I am in awe – the white hydrangea is awesome. Is that one in your store?

Oh, that pink hydrangea! Mine haven’t bloomed this year! I think it’s been a bit dry for them. And your Emma-what a beauty! Of course, your photography skills capture her so wonderfully.

I ADORE the bokeh off the end of that pier! So peaceful to me!

Wowzers– all gorgeous. And we have been doing a lot of after dinner walks and before breakfast jaunts around here for this very reason.

And I vote YES for the before and after posts. Please.
