the mini-party that could

I’m almost hesitant to post this, because I’m afraid Lucy will read this in 15 years or so and be upset that we didn’t throw her a bash to end all bashes for her 1st birthday. But … it wasn’t a bash. And it was kind of great!

Of course, my camera was still in the shop, and I didn’t even grab my Olympus for “good” pictures. So not only did she not have a big party, I only captured it with my cell phone.

I really think that the gathering we had was perfect for my little munchkin, though, because she’s not much of a people person. Just a couple of grandparents and an aunt and uncle. We missed those who couldn’t make it, of course.

Okay, okay. I’ll say it. I only had the mini-party so that I could make pink cupcakes with white frosting.

And the cutest guest of honor in a new dress lovingly picked and sent by Auntie Laura. [Emma got one, too!]

She was pretty dainty with the cupcake at first, but she went for it. Kind of.

The funny thing is, we’re the parents that let our kids get dirty and nasty [they’re only kids once!] … I just want them to GO FOR IT! And yet, she never really went for it. Ken finally had to keep putting cake in her mouth, because she kept looking at us like, “Do I really have to keep putting my hands in this?”

At the end of the day, we didn’t have a ton of cleanup, so it meant more time with our birthday girl. And that’s my kind of day.

A party is a party no matter how you spin it as long as there are cupcakes involved!

The girls look gorgeous as always and your phone photos are great! Although, you definitely have my sympathy for not having the big camera on hand – I know I would have been pretty bummed about that.

awwwwww! And, at the risk of sounding totally dorky, I sorta kinda totally think mini-parties are THE BEST!! Looks like Lucy had a perfectly lovely day in a perfectly lovely dress, eating perfectly delightful pink cupcakes with her most important peeps with her, all while Mom worked that cell phone like it was a Hasselblad!

Looks like you had a perfectly wonderful party for Lucy. At one year old they don’t have a clue why it is suddenly OK to mash up cake and why everyone is making such a fuss anyway. Love the photo of you three girls in your nice dresses!

Hola, I love the pics, and the way you did the balloons hanging down. I especially love the one of the three of you. Gosh, I can’t believe she is a year old already…(I mean, I am always going to be the one to say “I remember holding Emma in the hospital!! Where has the time gone!” That and I still remember going to bars with you and singing along loudly to Maroon 5 in your car. LOL)

Happy BDay to Lucy!
I will email you soon, I might be coming to Anderson Oct 7-10.

{sigh} Your girls are so gorgeous. And I love the way you capture them.

PS: The dress you’re wearing in the picture with the girls? I have the same one! Target, right? I have to wear a tank under mine too. :)

I love it. It was exactly like Zofia’s first birthday, cellphone pictures and all. I actually ordered prints to see what they looked like and they looked SO old fashioned and cool.

Our ladies will appreciate the little stuff just fine.

Ah! I happy to read this. We have ZERO plans for Karis’ 2nd birthday in two more sleeps. I’m thinking some balloons and some cupcakes would be perfect in its own special way. LOVE the little clip in Lucy’s hair.
