winter boredom buster

January 26, 2012

in emma,life with two,lucy,our life

Even though the SUN finally came out and is super bright and fabulous, it was still a little too chilly to take Lucy outside with her residual cough on Tuesday. So we were all having some serious cabin fever. After building a really awful fort that lasted all of about 4 minutes before it fell down [seriously, I need a tutorial or something], the girls were still whiny and bored.

I really wanted to wash every piece of linen we have used for the past week to try to de-germ our house, so I pulled out the trusty roll of wrapping paper that a neighbor left behind when they moved, taped a big hunk of it to the floor and threw a couple buckets of crayons down with it.

Emma’s newest obsession is tracing her feet and hands, and then measuring them with a ruler. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE having a 4-year old?

Lucy just wants to eat the crayons. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE having a 1-year old?

And then Emma exclaimed that she was “exhausted” and that she wanted to tape it to the door so daddy could see it as soon as he got home.

So that’s what we did.

finished

And then Lucy discovered that she wasn’t sitting in my lap and needed to remedy that ASAP.

Another successful 12-minute activity.

Aw, I love this post! The photo of Lucy contemplating the crayons she may eat next is my favorite. And I’m a little jealous that she’s still a lap-loving baby. My 19-mo old slithers down as fast as he possibly can.

you can borrow her anytime … she is either in my lap [when I'm sitting] or in my arms [when I'm standing] pretty much 24/7. I’m not sure what she thinks is going to happen when the baby gets here! ;)

I LOVE this idea! I may have to steal it on a rainy day. And measuring her hands and feet with a ruler? That is adorable!

I’m probably going to end up doing it again today, because it’s back to cold and cloudy. Boo.

That is such a great idea! I will have to remember that. And, can I just say, that Lucy’s brown hair KILLS me. Then you went and added a clip and I died. She is SO cute!!!

Aw, thanks. I love her hair, too!! It’s starting to lighten up a little bit, but it’s still very brown. And LONG.

Wonderful photos! Our one year olds must be close in age. Lorelei was born Dec. 8th. She’s like a cat how she just comes up and plops in your lap without you ever really noticing until you look down and there she is! So cute. I think I’m going to try painting on the floor today! We will see how that goes!

Lucy is a late-August baby, but I think she will be a lap baby for a while longer. She’s a super sweet momma’s girl :)

Love this post! Babies. Some paper and crayons. Simple. The last photo of your Lucy finding you is super sweet. Good job mom.

Hi Diana! I use a Lightroom print template to make it. I did a little Google’ing, and there are a couple of ways you could make something like it:

1. Goggle Picasa photo editor collage maker: http://support.google.com/picasa/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=19539

2. Photoshop blog templates: http://www.thecoffeeshopblog.com/2009/08/coffeeshop-web-triptych-pspse-action.html

I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions :)

Oh how I miss the days when my little man actually wanted to sit in my lap. Now it’s more of a wrangle and hold down for 35 seconds situation. :) Also, as far as forts go, I’ve found the best method is dining room chairs, the largest flat sheet you can find, and a couple of safety pins. It really is a science all in itself.

I know, everyone is going to tell me that I should embrace it and hold on to her as long as possible, and I definitely do. But my lap is getting smaller, and there will be a new baby soon, and I have a feeling things will become difficult for Miss Lucy for a while. :)

I made a pretty good one yesterday – the problems begin when Lucy starts trying to crawl on top of it or push the chairs away. ;)

I love that photo of Emma coloring between her legs. Like it’s just natural. Such a kid thing to do and I love how you captured it.

Off subject but relating to your last comment on my blog and running… (Meant to email you but since I’m here….:) Did you have a program that you trained with for your half that worked for you? This “non-runner” is seriously contemplating going for it. Did I actually type that?

Thanks so much, Stacey!! xoxo

I started with the Couch to 5K [modified to more running/less walking b/c I wasn't a total couch potato before I started running daily] and then used Hal Higdon’s half-marathon training program. it’s AWESOME! I will definitely use it again once the baby’s born and I can get back into it. I’m doing bathtime, so I can’t find the link, but I think there is a beginner program? SO PROUD OF YOU!! and if I can do it, anyone can – seriously!!

Great idea with the paper on the floor! And the clip in Lucy’s hair reminds me of when I first started doing that with K’s hair. Hope she’s feeling all better soon…

I was totally digging around in my crawlspace today for a roll of paper…was totally wanting to do this and NO PAPER ROLL TO BE FOUND! bummed. its on my shopping list…even if its only 12 minutes….that’s probably 1 bathroom that gets cleaned, or 2 rooms dusted….or my stove top that needs a scrub! Mama needs that 12 minutes!
