with my camera in my hands …

I write this post with a happy heart. I have a beautiful Canon 5d Mark ii in my hands, and oh, it feels SO GOOD. Just like I always knew it would.

Full frame is just … wow. Amazing.

three kids

I am working on a [very simple] photo wall for our new house, and this one is going front and center … I love it so so much. They’re all sweaty from running around, and Lucy + Emma are in pajamas, and Henry’s onesie is all stretched out from wearing it all day … but these are my kids. This is my life.

[I’ll be talking about capturing this very thing at the I Heart Faces photography conference this October]

So … to celebrate my new camera and our busy lives, here are a few shots I took on a normal day.

  1. Love your post :) I a all about capturing lifestyle images! I acquired my Canon Mark ii in February & I am so in-love with it :) It”s with me 95% of the time even when I am not on a session! hehe… Have fun!

Congrats in your Mark II! These shots are fantastic as always. I have a little full frame envy, but will get there someday. I would love to hear what you love most about the upgrade.

    1. keli says:

So far, I think the full frame is just really amazing … I’m using a cheap 50mm lens on these shots!! So far, it’s extremely similar to my 50D as far as settings go, and I haven’t used the video feature, yet. But I’m just amazed at the quality of pics compared to my 50D.

  6. Danielle says:

    1. keli says:

me too!!!! I can’t believe we’re only one state away from each other and haven’t met — we will have to remedy this soon! Goal for 2014??

Love Emma on her scooter! I hope she is doing well!!
Full frame is oh so lovely, isn’t it?! :)

    1. keli says:

She is doing very well!! She’ll have her neurology appt at the end of this month … EEG time! Wheee! ;) I’m very eager to see the results to see if there is any change since she’s been on medication. She begged me to add flavoring to her Keppra syrup this past month, and I figure if she has to take it twice a day, she can have whatever she wants. She looooooves the grape. :)

All I can say is ahhhhhhhh…….. like a breath of fresh air your pics inspire me!!! I’m always thinking everyone else’s ‘life’ looks so much better than mine but what the heck, its MY LIFE and I need to get more pics of it! Even if I dont’ have a fancy schmancy camera :-) serious envy but SO GLAD FOR YOU!!!! Wish I could see you in Oct!!! stupid 20th high school reunion is SO inconvenient ;-)

    1. keli says:

Don’t you DARE say that!!! Your pictures are just wonderful!!!! <3

My 50D wasn't a "fancy schmancy" camera, but it worked so very well. I'd still be using it if I hadn't dropped it and ruined it's life, lol. I also know that this will be my very last camera body for a very long long time, so I got the one that I've been wanting for YEARS. Now I'm on debit card lockdown, haha.

      1. Robin T says:

I am finally considering a new body so I can get more than 1600 ISO (7 year old Rebel). Won’t make a jump to full frame but that is ok, its how you use what you’ve got :-)

        1. keli says:

          SO true!! :)

  10. Jess says:

I’m so glad you are blogging! And so happy for you and your new camera! Life is pretty swell lately :)

    1. keli says:

Thanks, Jess!! Lots of good things in 2013, for sure! :)

Love that you don’t feel the need to make your kids look perfect. Love your style. Those real moments are the ones that fill your heart.

    1. keli says:

If my kids had to look perfect for every picture, I’d never take their picture. We’re lucky to get everyone dressed every day, heh. ;) Thanks so much, Jenny!

  12. I am getting pretty excited to meet you!

You know how I feel about children, and, life in general right? Everything should always look perfect. Right? NO WAY JOSE! Real is way more beautiful to me any day of the week.

    1. keli says:

I’m SUPER EXCITED to meet you!!!! I cannot wait wait WAIT for the conference. But alas … I should probably get my presentation together. haha.
