I’m working on dyeing and embellishing some prefolds for a friend, so I thought I’d post the progress here. She wanted all pink because she has a baby girl in diapers and one more girl due in December.

I decided to do 3 shades of pink. Unfortunately, the last batch was in while I was getting Emma bathed and ready for bed last night, so it stayed too long and ended up pretty much the same color as the 2nd batch. So she only has 2 shades of pink. Bummer.

Reminds me of Piglet, though. :)

It’s about 12:40am, but I can’t sleep. My brain just won’t quit. I know I’ll be sorry when Emma wakes up at, oh, 7:45 tomorrow morning. Oh wait — Ken’s always up and gets her first thing so I can sleep in a bit.

Being a mom is hard.

;)

So here’s what I’ve been working on today …

embellished prefolds – these are Emma’s, but I was experimenting with stitches to see which ones looked cleaner and worked the best. (ahem, straight stitch – I’m a simple gal)

I also made some bebe leggies for a Diaper Swappers mama …

I’ve got about 8 prefolds coming this week for me to dye and embellish for another Diaper Swappers mama, who I have become friends with. She’s been really easy to work with and has given me a lot of freedom. But it’s been difficult buying fabric with a boy in mind. I ended up with 3 different fabrics yesterday that had flowers on them — didn’t even notice. Oops. I just don’t want all trucks and trains, ya know?

Of course, I picked up a couple of yards of this fabric for diapers and possibly an outfit for Emma.

Yuck.

Our internet has been on and off the last few days — and just when it comes back up, my website crashes. Luckily, I married a computer geek.

See?

Those blinkies are so stupid, yet so fun.

Here are some of my favorites:

Anyway, mom said she’s going through Emma picture withdrawal, so I’ll try to get some uploaded and posted tomorrow.

I’ve been busy making things – for other people!! Believe it or not, people want my “babylegs” (can’t seriously call them that because it’s already taken) and embellished prefolds. Go figure! I picked up some fabric and knee socks this weekend and have been working my little fingers to the bone. Again, I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow.

Emma is doing so wonderful. She’s such a little doll. Lately, she’s been making the “b” noise (buh, buh, buh) so she’s branching out. We have no idea what she’s saying, but she is serious about something. I need to start jotting things down throughout the day, because as soon as I hit “write post,” my mind goes blank, and I’m like, “Yeah. She’s great. She’s cute. We love her.” Derrrrrrrr.

I guess the two really big things are …

1. She’s eating solids. We were going to wait until she was closer to 6 months, but she was opening her mouth like a baby bird whenever we ate and reaching for our food, so we felt like it was time. She eats cereal 2 meals a day (about 1/2-teaspoon), and it is so funny – she looks like an old man gumming it down. I’ll have to get Ken to video it this weekend.

2. She’s putting herself asleep 90% of the time, even for naps. We haven’t had an issue with nighttime for a while, but she was fighting naps big time. She had to be eating or rocking to go to sleep. I spoke to her pediatrician about it at her 4-month WBV last week, and he said that we could go through 2 days of hell and let her cry-it-out, or wean her gradually. So I gradually let her eat less and less and then just took away her bottle one day. Then, I gradually cut out the rocking. It only took about a week. I didn’t let her CRY like a banshee, but I did let her whine or fuss a little. She went from about 5 minutes of whining to less than 1. Even this morning, she was playing on her mat and then just passed out without a peep. I moved her to her crib, and she slept for 2.5 hours. Except for the weekends – when Daddy’s home, she doesn’t want to sleep, so he usually has to rock her, but I’m sure she’ll figure it out, eventually.

on the wagon: a colloquialism generally referring to an alcohol abuser’s sobering up time. Can also be used as a general reference to refraining from any bad habit.

No worries. I’m not addicted to alcohol. Worse. Is there a support group or rehab center or wagon for those of us addicted … to cloth diapers?

Y’all, something that I never really thought I’d enjoy this much has become an obsession. I love everything about it. I love picking her diapers out, I love washing them and folding them, I love researching and finding what works best for her/us, I love how chemical-free her bottom is, I love that she has never had a diaper rash. And lately, I love saving money by doing things myself.

I’ve never been a fan of prefolds.
prefolds

To me, they’re hard to put on and they’re not very absorbent. And don’t even get me started on what I’m supposed to do with pins. Eek!

But then I discovered Dylon dye. And I had way too much fun dyeing all of my boring white prefolds different colors.

And I got pretty good at putting them on Emma with the new-fangled Snappi (no pins!)

And then, I got some prefitteds — which are fitted diapers made out of prefolds. Huge plus is that they’re easy to put on!

They usually have a strip of fabric down the middle on the outside to make them prettier. So after I dyed my prefolds, I looked at my fabric-embellished prefolds and said, “You know. I believe I can do that!”

And I did!

Our little Emma looks cute as a button in them, of course.

I’m officially hooked!

It’s okay. You can yawn, now. I won’t look.

tired of me, yet?

Um, I made another dress. But this time, I used my own clothes. I think Ken’s worried that he’s going to go into his closet and have nothing to wear one day. Teehee. So I used an old maternity shirt and made a dress. It was already shirred at the top, so it was easy peasy. Er, I mean … it was really hard. I sweated and toiled over this for days. ;)

before:

after:

I only had to use one side of the dress (I guess I was just *that* big) so I cut up the shirred part on the other side to make the straps. But I’m going to have to go back and zigzag over the edges to make them neater. Now’s the time I really wish I had a serger.

Maybe for Christmas …

And just because she’s so cute …

To answer Roxanna’s question in the previous post — I’ve been sewing since February. I took a class at Hancock Fabrics, made some pillows and a pair of pj pants, started working on crib bedding for Emma’s room, talked my mom into buying me other crib bedding, took a hiatus when Miss Emma arrived, and have just now gotten back into it. Now, I think I’m obsessed.
