guest post

When I realized I’d be gone for a whole week, I originally planned on just not posting anything here. But then I remembered that I actually have friends who also blog, and I asked one of my favorite people in the whole wide world to write a guest post for me. Erin is an absolutely amazing person, writer, mother, teacher, friend … and I am honored that she agreed to write a guest post while we are away. Erin blogs at School Teacher by Day, Superhero by Night

———————————

Have you ever met someone and just known that they were your long-lost twin, that somehow, someway, you had to be separated at birth? Maybe you’ve even wondered if that person actually WAS you.

But… have you ever wondered if you were married to another woman’s husband? And I don’t mean looking at Johnny Depp and thinking, “Aww yeah, I wish that was MY husband,” because we’ve all done that. No, instead, let me tell you about the day that I discovered that my husband and Keli’s husband may just be the same person. It all started innocently enough, with a discussion about our older husbands and how funny older men can be. I innocently asked how much older Ken is than her, only to have her say 9.5 years. JUST LIKE MY HUSBAND. I always say 9.5 years, because he’s exactly 9.5 years (+3 days) older, and also, because people give me less disapproving looks than if I round up and say 10.

Of course, the age difference isn’t what really makes them the same person. It all started when I innocently asked if he liked to wear button up shirts all the time, and she replied that he does, but only if he rolls the sleeves up until they’re 3/4 length. Giggling maniacally, I ran upstairs to take this picture. Astonished at the fact that not only are our husbands the exact amount of years older, but that they also make the same questionable clothing choices, we became convinced that we were actually married to the same man. Then Keli discussed his favorite pair of shoes, and would you be surprised to learn that Shane wears the same kind? When I tweeted that Shane made me walk two miles through Chicago instead of just using valet parking, Keli tweeted back that she understood, that her old man husband was totally cheap and would do the same thing.

In a few months, Keli is going to have two girls, about the same distance apart as my two boys (a set-up just rife for arranged marriages). We both make super cute pregnant women (what? It’s true). I wish I could say that we’re both amazing photographers, but um, I’ll just say that I have a camera and like to point it at things. Oh, and I’m pretty sure that Keli’s baby is just going to fall out of her, like another baby I know. (You hear that, baby girl? Go easy on your mama!)

I really want to meet Keli someday, and I’m sure I will, but to be honest, I’m a little worried that the universe might just explode when worlds collide and bring our identical little families together.
